Lisa Pryor on Housing Lobby Groups

So I have been harsh on Lisa Pryor before on this blog. However, she has written a surprising opinion piece in the Sydney Morning Herald, and in light of this news it is good to read. From Pryor’s quirky piece:

Having been in something of a strident communist mood in the past few weeks, I would like to propose a better solution. Rather than giving benefits to the wealthy in the hope that it will trickle down, why not give benefits to the truly needy in the hope that it will trickle up?

Government should build more public housing. Retro, I know. Red as the blood of the martyrs. But isn’t this the best way to guarantee the dollars go directly to increasing the number of cheap properties available to rent and ensuring they are rented by the most needy?
